Solution

The properties of liquids are:

  1. Liquids have a definite volume but indefinite shape and size.
  2. They possess the property of fluidity.
  3. They are less dense than solids.
  4. They have low compressibility. Due to the presence of empty spaces among the particles they are more compressible than solids.
  5. They show diffusion.
  6. In liquids, the particles are packed slightly loosely.

The properties of gases are:

  1. Gases have indefinite shape, size, and volume.
  2. They have maximum fluidity.
  3. They show the least rigidity.
  4. They possess low densities as compared to solids and liquids.
  5. They are highly compressible due to the presence of large interparticle space.

Hence, liquids and gases may be considered as fluids.
