Androecium or stamen:

  1. An androecium or stamen is the third whorl of a flower and is a male reproductive part of a flower.
  2. It comprises an anther and filament.
  3. The anther plays role in the production and storage of pollen grains(male gamete cells).
  4. The filament is a stalk that is responsible for holding the anthers.

Gynoecium or pistil:

  1. A pistil or gynoecium is the fourth whorl of a flower and is a female reproductive part of a flower.
  2. It comprises a stigma, style and an ovary.
  3. The stigma is a stick part on which the pollen grains settle down.
  4. The style is a tube-like portion in which the pollen tube grows that transfers the pollen grain from the stigma to the ovule.
  5. The ovary is the part where fertilization occurs and later the ovary develops into a fruit.
