Question

Angle between minute hand and hour hand at 5 o'clock is ?

Open in App
Solution

Angle between minute hand and hour hand of the clock:

Given that the time is 5 o’clock.

In a clock, there are 12 hour divisions and one complete rotation of the hour hand measures 360°. Hence, for each hour, the hour hand of the clock (and for every 5 minutes, the minute hand of the clock) covers a measure of 360°12=30°. Therefore, each hour division forms a sector of angle 30°.

At 5 o’clock, the hour hand is at 5 and the minute hand is at 12.

Therefore, at 5 o’clock, there is a difference of 5 hour divisions or sectors between the two hands of the clock.

Hence, the angle formed between the two hands of the clock will be

5×30°=150°

Hence, the angle formed between the two hands of the clock will be 150°.
