Question

Angular diameter of the Jupiter is 36". If the distance of the Jupiter form the Earth is 825 million kilometer, find the diameter of Jupiter.

Solution

Let the diameter of jupiter be dm.
Distance of jupiter from the earth (D)=825×106×103m=8.25×1011
Angular diameter (θ)=36=36×4.874×106rad=1.75×104
As we know that,
θ=dD
d=θ×D
d=1.75×104×8.25×1011=1.44×108m=1.44×105km
Hence the diameter of the jupiter is 1.44×105km.
