Solution

Dear student.

a. Ethylene is a phytohormone, synthesized in ripening fruits, fruits, flowers, leaves and even roots and acts as a natural plant growth hormone.

b. The fruit ripening caused by the plant hormone, ethylene. It converts the plant starch into sugar. Ethylene is produced and released by rapidly-growing plant tissues and is released by the growing tips of roots, flowers, damaged tissue, and ripening fruit. Natural ripening in some fruits is a slow process, which leads to high weight loss, desiccation of fruits and uneven ripening.

c. Physiological effects of Ethylene:

  • It shows inhibitory effect on growth.
  • EhyleEthyleneesponsible for positive geotrophic bending of roots
  • It inhibits growth of lateral buds
  • It stimulates fruit growth and ripening
  • It stimulates abscission (formation of separation layer)
  • Ethylene induces flowering
