Anjali visited her ancestral house in a small town. One day, all the lights got switched off in the evening. Her grandfather immediately checked the fuse and changed the fuse wire. The lights were on again. Anjali suggested her grandfather to use MCB in place of electric fuse.

a. Miniature circuit breakers (MCB) are being used because-

  • It is reusable and hence has less maintenance and replacement cost.
  • It automatically switches off the electrical circuit because of its high sensitivity to abnormal current flow.
  • Faulty circuit, in case of MCB, trips to the Off position.
  • The user, in the case of MCB, is not exposed to live electrical parts means it is a quite safer option.
