Solution

(a) When the position of the object changes with respect to a fixed point due to some external force then we can say that object has been set in motion.

(b) Following are the effects of force on an object:

It can move a body initially at rest.

It can bring a moving body to rest.

It can change the direction of a moving body.

It can change the speed of a moving body.

It can change the shape of a body.

It can change the size of a body.

(c) To measure the work we must consider two factors: applied force and displacement.

(d) The different forms of energy are Mechanical, Light, Heat, Sound, Magnetic, Electrical, Chemical and Nuclear.

(e) Heat is used in many ways to do different types of work in daily life. For example:

Thermal power is run by the burning of coal which produces heat. In early time steam engine was run by heat produced by the burning of coal. Also, cooking is done by use of heat that is produced by various sources by burning of LPG or by burning of wood, coal etc.

Hence, we can say heat is a form of energy.
