Solution

Answer the following:
(1) The effect of temperature on ionic product of water ( Kw)
With increase in temperature, the extent of the dissociation of water increases. Due to this, the ionic product of water increases.
At 0oC, Kw=0.11×1014
At 10oC, Kw=0.30×1014
At 25oC, Kw=1.00×1014
At 1000oC, Kw=7.50×1014
(2) The value of the ionic product of water (Kw) remains unchanged if some acid is added to it.
When an acid is added to pure water, hydrogen ion concentration increases and hydroxide ion concentration decreases. But the product of the hydrogen ion concentration and hydroxide ion concentration (i.e, ionic product of water) remains same.
