There are six to twelve ducts of the tear gland that secretes tears which helps to:

• Lubricate the surface of the eyes.
• Keep the surface of eyes clean by washing away the dust particles.
• They have an antiseptic proterty due to the enzyme lysozyme which helps in killing germs.
