How was Wanda different from other girls? How did they treat her?

Wanda Petronski, a poor Polish girl had immigrated to America along with her family. Every day she came to school in a faded blue dress that was never ironed. She was an introvert. Her appearance was quite different from other girls. The other children did not respect her at all. She was very quiet and rarely said anything at all. Other American children treated her badly due to her awkward name and dress.
