Question

Answer the following question in one word each

Name the class of levers that has a mechanical advantage of more than one.

Open in App
Solution

  1. Class 2 levers are those levers in which the fulcrum and effort always take the endpoint positions of the lever.
  2. The load may lie at any position between the endpoints fulcrum and effort.
  3. The load and effort need to be in opposite directions.
  4. The effort arm is always longer than the load arm.
  5. Mechanical advantage is defined as the ratio of load to the effort.Mechanicaladvantage=loadeffort=effortarmloadarm, when effort arm > load arm, M.A > 1
  6. M.A > 1 indicates, load > effort, class 2 levers act as a force multiplier.
  7. Both mechanical advantage and velocity ratio will have a value of greater than 1.

Hence, the mechanical advantage is always more than one in the case of levers of second order.
