Solution

(a) The direction of the current in an electric motor gets reversed after every half round to avoid the north pole of the coil to come near the south pole of the magnet and thereby avoiding attraction between the two.

(b) The strength of the electromagnet can be increased in two ways:

(i) By increasing the electric current passing through the coil

(ii) By increasing the number of turns of the coil

(c) An armature gets set in the motion when an electric current is passed through it. This principle is used in the working of an electric motor.

(d) One of the main uses of a key in the electric circuit is to start or stop the electric current in a circuit, whenever required, by closing or opening the key instead of removing the source again and again.

(e) The mechanism of shirt button is not same as that of the key in the circuit. Shirt button does not cause any flow but it is used to attach two parts of the shirt, whereas closing the key produces current in the circuit. Key in the circuit is similar to a water tap in our homes.
