(a) In 1953, Hooper was a favoured young man because he had everything that anyone could desire. He had a strong physique, a good personality, a high-paying job and he was a famous footballer.

(b) i) ‘They’ refers to the men from the company who visited Hooper in the hospital.

ii) They decided to create a desk job for Hooper because he was paralysed and could no longer do the sales job.

(c) Duke was an extraordinary dog. He quickly sensed his master’s ailment and helped him stand back on his feet. He, slowly and gradually made his master walk. He, unfailingly, accompanied his master for a walk and made sure that each day the distance walked was more than the distance walked the previous day.

(d) When Chuck returned to his company, a peculiar problem was created for the company. It was difficult for the company to create a job for Chuck that allowed him to work for only one hour a day.

(e) Charles Hooper’s appointment as Assistant National Sales Manager was a tribute to Duke because Duke had the greatest role in making his master climb up the ladders of success step-by-step.
