Question

Answer the following questions.

(i) If A - B - C and d(A,C) = 17, d(B,C) = 6.5 then d(A,B) = ?
(ii) If P - Q - R and d(P,Q) = 3.4, d(Q,R)= 5.7 then d(P,R) = ?

Solution

(i)

We have, d(A, C) = 17; d(B, C) = 6.5
Now, d(A, C) = d(A, B) + d(B, C)
So, d(A, B) = d(A, C) − d(B, C) = 17 − 6.5
∴ d(A, B) = 10.5

(ii)

We have, d(P, Q) = 3.4; d(Q, R) = 5.7
Now, d(P, R) = d(P, Q) + d(Q, R) = 3.4 + 5.7
∴ d(P, R) = 9.1
