A rough surface has greater friction than a smooth surface. Why?

1. A rough surface will have more friction because on a rough surface there will be more irregularities.
2. They will cause interlocking which in turn creates more frictional force.
3. For a smooth surface, irregularities and interlocking are less and hence have very less friction.
