Human rights are the opportunities one must have to live a dignified life. ​ To live independently, one should be free to express themselves, maintain their personal space, choose their religion and more.​
  • Human Rights Approved by the UNO:
    • Right to live
    • Right to freedom of expression
    • Right to education and cultural freedom
    • Right to employment
Institutions Established to Protect Human Rights in India:
  1. National Human Rights Commission​:
    • It was established in 1993.
    • It acts as a watchdog of human rights at the national level.​
    • It addresses complaints related to​ human rights violations.
  2. State Human Rights Commission​:
    • It is present across all the states and prevents the violation of human rights at the state level.​
    • The Kerala Human Rights Commission was established in 1998.​
  3. National Commission for Protection​ of Child Rights​:
    • It was established in March 2007.​
    • It enquires into cases of child’s rights violations and takes necessary actions.
  4. National Commission for Women​:
    • It was established in 1990.​
    • It ensures the protection of women’s rights in India.​
