Name the process used for the enrichment of
sulphide ore.
Froth floatation process -
Principle : Wetting of the ore by oil and gangue by water. The ore slurry is mixed with a frothier (usually pine oil) and a collector (usually ethyl xanthate) in a large tank. The whole mixture is agitated with air. The ore is damped by oil and forms a froth that rises to the surface of the tank. The impurities moistened by water settle down. The froth is separated and treated with a dilute mineral acid to break it into fine particles. Since the ore particles float with froth at the surface, the process is called the froth floatation process. This method is suitable for the concentration of sulphide ores of copper, lead and zinc.
