Unemployment found in village areas is known as rural unemployment. The following are its main causes.
a. Backward method of agriculture- The methods of agriculture used in India are old and backward. The productivity of land is also low and there is negligible scope of hiring more labourers. Thus, this contributes to unemployment.
b. Population growth- The rising rate of population and population explosion in India is creating widespread unemployment.
c. Land fragmentation- There is a huge pressure on land in India due to large population. This result in the fragmentation of land, creating obstacles for agriculture work and thus, people who depend on agriculture remain unemployed.
