Why does presence of excess of lithium makes LiCl crystals pink ?

Excess of lithium leads to metal excess defect . Lithium atoms lose electrons to form $L{i}^{+}$ ions . These electrons diffuse in to the crystal and form F-centres. Therefore , $LiCl$ crystals become pink.
