What adverse effect does ozone depletion have?

Open in App
Solution

The ozone layer protects and prevents the ultraviolet radiation from reaching the Earth’s surface. Depletion of ozone layer will lead to an over exposure of the organisms to the UV radiations. This may cause skin cancer, cataract (clouding of the natural lens of the eye, thereby causing impairment of vision or blindness), reduction in plant growth, decrease in productivity of crops, reduced population of phytoplankton, weakening of the immune system, eye cancer etc. Thus, ozone layer prevents us from all these disorders.
