Question

answer the given questions Water will move from its region of higher ch poten me to its region of lower chemical potential until equilibrium is reachq the equilibrium the two chambers should have the same water pcnential. You may have made a potato osmometer at some earlier school. If the tuber is placed in water, the cavity in the potato tu to containing a concentrated solution of sugar collects water due to OPT Study Figure 11.3 in which the two chambers, A and B, pre solutions are separated by a semi-permeable membrane. Solute molecule Water (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) (f) Semi-permeable membrane Figure 11.3 Solution of which chamber has lower water potential? Solution of which chamber has r lower solute potential? In which direction will osmosi occur? Which solution has a higher solu potential? At equilibrium which chamber have lower water potential? Ilone chamber has a of—2000kPa and the other — 1000 kPa. E.vhfch is the chamber that has the higher V?

Solution

Dear student,
Answer:- a) B, b) B, c) A to B, d) A, e) none, f) -1000 kPa
a) More solute decreases water potential.
b) Solute molecules are more in chamber B which decreases solute potential.
c) Osmosis occurs from higher concentration of water to lower concentration.
d) Solute molecules are less in A chamber which increases its solute potential.
e) Water potential will be equal in both the chamber at equilibrium.
f) -1000 kPa is less negative than -2000 kPa. Therefore water potential is higher with -1000 kPa.
