What is the difference between Rights Shares and Bonus Shares?

Rights shares are the shares issued to the existing shareholders. This is just like normal issue of shares, but only existing shareholders can apply for it. While Bonus shares are the shares allotted to the existing shareholders free of cost. This is issued out of the profit of the company and shareholders do not pay any amount for it.
