The loss of water as water vapour from the aerial parts of the plant is called transpiration.

The two adaptation in plants to reduce transpiration:

1. The number of stomata can be reduced as in xerophytes like cactus.
2. The leaves may become narrow to reduce leaf surface area as in Nerium and pine.
