Solution

Transpiration:

The loss of water as water vapor from the aerial parts of the plant is called transpiration.

The advantages of transpiration to the plant:

  1. Transpiration helps in the ascent of sap due to a suction force or pull created by the loss of water.
  2. As the water evaporates from leaves, a suction force is developed at top of the plant which draws more water from the soil through roots and stems.
  3. Transpiration has a cooling effect by reducing the temperature of the leaf surface by evaporation of water vapor from it.
