The government of India has taken several measures to check population growth in India. The following are some of these measures.
a. Economic measures-The government has taken economic measures in the form of poverty alleviation, employment generation and industrial expansion. The main rationale behind these efforts is to improve the standard of living of the people, and to encourage them to have small families.
b. Social measures- The government has made efforts to improve the educational level of the society. This is because good education promotes women empowerment which in turn helps the people to decide the socially desired size of the family.
c. Family Planning Programmes- Family planning program was initiated by the government of India in 1952, in order to control the rising population in the country. This program emphasised on having a small family and controlling the size of a family through the use of contraceptives and time spacing between the births.
