Traditional sources of energy, also known as the conventional sources of energy are those that have been known and used by us for a long time and are freely available. The following are some of the traditional sources of energy in India:
a. Firewood- It is one of the most important sources of energy in rural areas, as it is used in cooking and for heating purposes. It constitutes about 60% of the total rural energy consumption.
b. Crop-residue- It comprises of rotten vegetables, agriculture wastes, etc. It is primarily used as manure for agriculture purposes.
c. Dried dung cakes- Cakes made from animal dung are also used along with firewood for burning and cooking purposes.
