Question

Antiport transport occurs in the axoplasm of neuron, when neuron is under resting stage. As action potential generates at axon there is a change in pump proteins of axolemma which is about 70 mV and will reach to 60 mV. This will cause opening of Na+ VGC because it is permeable for uptake of Na+ ion however it cannot easily diffuse K+ ion.

Mark the correct statement according to the given paragraph.

A
Action potential will stop passive transport of Na+/K+ pump

Solution

The correct option is C Action potential will stop active transport of Na+/K+ pump
As the action potential is generated at axon hillock, it will stop Na+/K+ pump. The sodium–potassium pump mechanism moves 3 sodium ions out and 2 potassium ions in, thus, in total, removing one positive charge carrier from the intracellular space by using ATP (i.e., active transport).

Change in resting potential occurs due to influx of Na+.
