Question

Anushka noted down the following observations in her practical book.
i. Weight of the metal block in air =260 gwt
ii. Weight of the metal block in water =220 gwt
iii. Weight of the metal block in salt water =180 gwt
Find the relative density of the salty water.

Solution

Weight of metals block in air =260 g
Weight of metal block in water =220 g
w1=vρg
v= Volume of metal block
ρ= Density of metal
σ= Density of water (1gm/cm3)
w1=260 g=V×ρ×9.8
w2=220 g=V×1×9.8
w2w1=220260=V×1×9.8V×ρ×9.8
ρ=260220=1.18
Now,
Weight of metal block in salt water =180 g=w3
a= Density of salty water
w3w1=V×a×9.8V×1.18×9.8=180260
