Question

Apoorv has only 2 rupee and 5 rupee coins in his piggy bank. The total value of the coins is Rs.132. If the number of 2 rupee coins is 3 times the number of 5 rupee coins, find the number of each of coins.

Solution

Let x coins of Rs 2 and y coins of Rs 5.
According to question,
2x+5y=132...(i)
x=3y...(ii)
solving both the equation we get,
y = 12 and x = 36
Therefore, number of Rs 2 coins = 36
Number of Rs 5 coins = 12
