Solution

The correct option is D 50Hz
Given: Change in wavelength, Δλ=2.5cm=0.025m,
Velocity of source, vs=17m/s,
Velocity of sound, v=340m/s

We have apparent change in frequency when source is approaching the stationary observer.

Δλ=λ.vs/v

λ=Δλ.v/vs=0.025×340/17=0.5m

Now when observer recedes from the stationary source with velocity, vo=25m/s

Apparent frequency is given by: Δf=f.vo/v=vλ.vov
Δf=vo/λ=25/0.5=50Hz
