Question

Applications of simple harmonic motion and simple pendulum motion?

Open in App
Solution

applications of simple harmonic motion :
A string on a guitar, when plucked will vibrate, it follows Hooke’s Law, F= kx.

A pendulum is a simple example of harmonic motion.

Draw you finger-nails across a chalk board, the sound is a simple albeit irritating example of harmonic motion.

Another example is your ear drum itself, The sound waves move thru the air. This force F makes the ear bone vibrate. This is elastic motion, or if you will a vibration, which your nerves detect and send to the brain. As this point you yell at the fool who’s drawing his/her finger-nails across that chalk board.
The yell causes lung air to vibrate the vocal chords which transmits a force to the ears of that fool.
swing, pendulum clock, simple pendulum and mass attached to spring are example of simple harmonic motion
