Solution

The valence shell electronic configuration of Cu+2 ion is 3d9. It contains 1 unpaired electron.
The valence shell electronic configuration of Zn+2 ion is 3d10. It contains 0 unpaired electrons.
Hence, aqueous Cu+2 ions are blue in color, where as aqueous Zn+2 ions are colorless.
Note: Transition metal ions are coloured due to presence of unpaired electrons.
