Solution

The correct option is D migration
Migration is an adaptive response to the seasonal or geographical variation of resources. At any given time, the duration and intensity of solar energy received in each hemisphere is different. To avail food and avoid harsh weather, there are animals that migrate from one place to another. Migration is observed in all major animal- groups including birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians, insects and crustaceans.

Arctic terns are small, slender, grey and white birds with angular wings best known for their long, yearly migration. They travel from the Arctic breeding grounds to Antarctica, where they enjoy Antarctic summers.

When the environmental condition becomes too harsh or hostile, some animals migrate out of those places to survive. Some other animals enter into an inactive state, which they stay in until the conditions become suitable. This is commonly referred to as hibernation.

Aestivation occurs in animals living in desert and tropical regions to help them protect from hot and dry weather. Vernalisation is the induction of flowering with the exposure of prolonged cold or winter.
