Are all bryophytes heterosporous?

Open in App
Solution

Bryophytes:

  1. Bryophytes refer to a diverse group of liverworts and mosses. They mostly grow in moist and shady regions.
  2. They can grow on soil but needs water for reproduction Due to this, they are called ‘amphibians of the plant kingdom’.
  3. Heterosporous plants (e.g. angiosperms) produce two kinds of spores (microspores and megaspores).
  4. Bryophytes are not heterosporous. They are homosporous since they produce spores of only one kind.
