Question

Are all four chambered heart organisms warm blooded. What about crocodiles?

Open in App
Solution

All four chambered organisms are not warm blooded.

insects, fish, reptiles and amphibians are cold blooded because their body temperature changes along with the external temperature, while birds and mammals are warm blooded because they maintain a high body temperature regardless of the external temperature.

the four chambered heart keeps your oxygenated and de-oxygenated blood well separated from each other which helps in maintaining a constant body temperature by giving a rich supply of oxygen and hence energy. While, hearts with less than four chambers have slight mixing of these two types of blood and hence these animals are usually cold blooded.

crocodile has four chambered heart but they are warm blooded. It is an exceptional case.It is due to evolutionary advantage ..
