Question

Are all reactions either exothermic or endothermic ?
H2+O2 --> H2O
Is itexothermic or endothermic ?

Open in App
Solution

Reactions may be exothermic or endothermic. If in a reaction heat energy is absorbed its endothermic and if heat energy is liberated its exothermic.
Ex.,
NH4Cl(s) + H2O ---- > NH4Cl(aq)
This reaction is endothermic reaction.
CH4 + 2O2 ----- > CO2 + 2 H2O
This reaction is exothermic reaction.

The reaction H2+O2 --> H2O is an exothermic reaction as lot of heat energy is liberated.
