Are all reactions reversible?

Open in App
Solution

Reversible Reaction:

  1. A reaction that can take place in both forward and backward direction is called Reversible reaction.
  2. Example: Reaction of Nitrogen(N2) and Oxygen(O2): N2(g)+O2(g)2NO(g)

Irreversible reaction:

  1. Reactions that can occur in the forward direction only is called Irreverisble Reaction.
  2. Example: Reaction of sodium(Na) with water(H2O): 2Na(s)+2H2O(l)2NaOH(aq)+H2(g) Combustion of Hydrocarbons: CxHy+x+y4O2xCO2+y2H2O

Thus, all reactions are not reversible in nature.
