  1. Down syndrome is a genetic disorder. In this condition, the individual consists of three 21st chromosomes instead of two in a normal individual.
  2. It occurs due to the non-disjunction of chromosomes.
  3. Non-disjunction refers to the inability of the sister chromatids to separate during cell division.
  4. Babies with Down syndrome are likely to be born early.
  5. Their length and birth weight may also be below average.
  6. Poor muscle tone, flat facial profile, short neck, and bulging tongue are a few characteristics of babies affected with Down syndrome.
