Are capacitors wired in series or parallel?

Capacitors can be wired in both series and parallel.

When capacitors are connected in series, the total capacitance of $N$ capacitors is the sum of all inverse capacitance as,

$\frac{1}{C_{total}}=\frac{1}{C_1}+\frac{1}{C_2}+\frac{1}{C_3}+.......+\frac{1}{C_{N-1}}+\frac{1}{C_N}$

Whereas, when capacitors are connected in parallel, the total capacitance of $N$ capacitors is simply sum of all capacitance as,

$C_{total}=C_1+C_2+C_3+........C_{N-1}+{C_N}_{}$
