Question

Are carbon and hydrogen metals if not then why are they mentioned in the reactive table of the app

Open in App
Solution

As you pointed out correctly the reactivity series is only for metals.
But there are different versions in different classes and this may create confusion on you.
  1. In classes 6-10, a reactivity series is one which is indicating the ability of the metal do displace another metal from the aqueous solution. This table will have only metals like Aluminium, Iron, Copper and Zinc etc. So there will be no more sodium and potassium in the list. Because sodium and potassium cannot be used in aqueous solutions.
  2. In class 11 the reactivty series indicates the ability of metal to get oxidized. So the metals which can easily donate electron will come in this. So we can find even sodium and potassium in this list aprt from above list.
  3. In class 12 the reactivity series is also known as electrochemical series. This is the ability of the element to get reduced by taking electrons. So the value of all the elements will be included in this list. You can find the value of every non metals like carbon etc in the list.
So essentially there are many reactivity series available in the internet and other sources. But in according to class 8 level there is only very few elements in the table and in no such table carbon is placed as high reactive metal.
