Question

Is centrosome duplication uncoupled completely from DNA duplication in cells?

Open in App
Solution

DNA duplication:

  1. Also known as DNA replication.
  2. During the cell cycle, the initiations of DNA replication and centrosome duplication are coordinated.
  3. DNA replication is a semi-conservative process.
  4. Because one strand of a new double-stranded DNA molecule is generated from the old template molecule.

Centrosome duplication:

  1. Centrosome duplication is also semiconservative as DNA duplication.
  2. Each centrosome receives one old centriole and one new centriole.
  3. This occurs during the S phase of the cell cycle.
  4. Centrosome duplication is uncoupled completely from DNA duplication in cells.
