Question

Are conidia produced from a single fungus genetically identical?

Open in App
Solution

Conidia:

  1. Conidia are non-motile asexual exogenous spores that are found in certain fungi.
  2. Example: Aspergillus, Penicillium, Trichoderma, etc.
  3. They are produced exogenously on a special type of mycelium called ‘conidiophores’.
  4. These spores are formed by mitosis. Therefore, conidia produced from a single fungus are genetically identical to the parent cells.
