Are conifers homosporous or heterosporous?

Open in App
Solution

Conifers:

  1. Conifers are a type of gymnosperm. Gymnosperms refer to plants that produced naked seeds.
  2. Conifers are heterosporous. They produce two kinds of spores- microspores and megaspores.
  3. Microspores are produced from microsporangia in the male cone and megaspores are produced from megasporangia in the female cone.
  4. Microspores and megaspores give rise to male and female gametophytes respectively.
  5. Homosporous plants produce bisexual spores, which give rise to both male and female gametophytes. Bryophytes and pteridophytes produce homosporous plants.
