Question

Are De Broglie waves electromagnetic?

Open in App
Solution

De Broglie's hypothesis of matter waves postulates that “any particle of matter that has linear momentum is also a wave".

  1. De Broglie waves or matter waves are different from electromagnetic waves. Thus, de Broglie's waves do not exist in a vacuum-like electromagnetic wave.
  2. De Broglie waves are the waves that are possessed by every particle due to their dual behavior.
  3. Electromagnetic waves are emitted by electrically charged particles.

Hence, de Broglie's waves are not electromagnetic.
