Question
Are diatoms consumers or producers?
Open in App
Solution
Diatoms:
These are unicellular photosynthetic microalgae found in aquatic and marine environments with a hard outer shell made of silica.
They are photosynthetic in nature and hence produce their own food due to the presence of carotenoids and chlorophyll.
Large strata of consumers are dependent upon these photosynthetic diatoms for energy.
Diatoms are considered producers.
