Open in App
Solution

Enzymes:

  1. They are proteins that catalyze biochemical reactions.
  2. Example- pepsin (hydrolyses peptide bonds in proteins)

Digestive enzymes:

  1. These are enzymes that help in the process of digestion.
  2. They help in breaking down complex molecules into simpler forms.
  3. Example- Lipase(lipid digestion), amylase(carbohydrate digestion), etc.
  4. Digestive enzyme tablets/medicines are also prescribed by doctors to aid in digestion-related issues.
  5. Example- PERT (Pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy) contains lipase, protease, and amylase.
  6. Therefore, digestive enzymes are safe to consume but only as per a doctor's prescription.
