Eggshells as a natural fertilizer:

  1. Approximately 95% of the dry eggshell is calcium carbonate.
  2. Broadly, eggshells possess 3% magnesium, 3% phosphorus, and small amounts of iron, zinc, copper, manganese, etc.
  3. They are a good source of calcium and other micronutrients.
  4. Calcium is a major component of cell walls.
  5. Therefore, eggshells are used as a natural fertilizer.

Eggshells as pest control:

  1. Powdered eggshells when sprinkled in the fields are known to keep harmful insects away.
  2. Eggshells are also used for pest control(against ants, flea beetle, etc).
