Gametophyte is a haploid sexual phase in the life cycle of plants.
Gametophytes are of two types- male and female.
In vascular plants, microspores and megaspores give rise to male and female gametophytes respectively.
Male gametophyte contains three cells, one vegetative and two sperm cells. It refers to the pollen grain.
Female gametophyte has eight cells, one central cell, one egg cell, two synergid cells, and three antipodal cells. It refers to the embryo sac.
