Greenhouse gases allow the passage of solar radiation but prevent heat radiation from passing out.
The concentration of greenhouse gases has increased drastically due to the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, agricultural activities, etc. This has resulted in global warming and ozone layer depletion.
Greenhouse gases are emitted by both natural and man-made sources.
Many greenhouse gases viz. water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrogen oxides are natural.
The natural sources include respiration, decomposition of organic matter, volcanic eruptions, etc.
Chlorofluorocarbons are an example of man-made greenhouse gas. They are released into the atmosphere through aerosol sprays, air conditioning, and refrigerants.
