Are humans ammonotelic?

Open in App
Solution

Humans:

  1. Humans are vertebrates that belong to the class Mammalia.
  2. Ammonotelic organisms excrete soluble ammonia as nitrogenous waste. Large amounts of water are required to excrete this toxic waste.
  3. Example: crustaceans, bony fishes.
  4. Humans are not ammonotelic. They excrete nitrogenous waste in the form of urea; hence called ureotelic.
  5. Water is not required in high amounts as compared to ammonotelic organisms.
